In the grade 5 health curriculum their is a unit on self-esteem. Self-esteem is essential to our ability to function in a healthy way. While looking for a website to teach my students about self-esteem I came across this great self-esteem quiz for students. In this multiple choice quiz there are 10 questions and there is no right or wrong answer. You go through the 10 questions and answer however you feel about each of the question. Some examples of the questions they ask are: If I don't do as well as others, it means that I am an inferior person. Also questions such as, I could disappear from the surface of the earth and nobody would even notice. For the questions like this you have 5 choices to choose from, strongly disagree, disagree, somewhat agree, agree, strongly agree. At the end of the test it will give you a score for what you self-esteem is out of 100%. From 80-100, you have a high self-esteem and 60-100, and alright self esteem, and anything below 50 is considered a low self esteem. Then it will give you a paragraph response about your score and tell you what you need to do, if anything to improve your self-esteem.
To use this website in the classroom I would use it at the start of the unit. I would have the students go to this site and do the multiple choice quiz and then mark down their scores. I would make them read the self confidence paragraph below their score and try to understand why their self-esteem is so high or low. In this paragraph it explains what it means to have self-esteem and how important it is to your overall health. We would talk about what they thought about the test and their scores and if they thought that their mark reflected how they saw their own self-esteem. We would then talk about what it means to have a high self-esteem and why some people have low self-esteem. After taking this quiz many questions will arise from the students. You then can lead right in to teaching about low and high-self esteem. This test will teach the students that having a low self-esteem corrodes our love lives, careers, family bonds, and, most importantly, our internal sense of well-being. A high self-esteem, on the other hand, brings the high level of confidence, problem-solving abilities, and assertiveness needed to achieve.
This website is a great way to start the unit on self-esteem and it will get the students wondering why they scored what they did. It also allows students to understand the benefits of having high self-esteem apposed to low self-esteem. Teaching the students that having a healthy self-esteem allows you to "be yourself", handle stress effectively and maintain an overall sense of well-being is the whole point of this unit. This site is an interactive and interesting way to start off that topic.

Web 2.0 - Voo2do
Web 2.0 is a great tool for all students to have and it has many different applications for all students to learn from. The one that stuck out to me was Voo2do, I believe that this website would be a great tool for students to have and use. I know when I was in school I had a tough time remembering certain due dates and organizing all my assignments and some of my assignments never got handed in because of it. Voo2do is an online organizer website for students to use, it keeps track of things like, your task lists, collaboration, notes, deadlines, and history of your work.
I would use this site for my Life Transitions 30 classroom. I would have all the students sign up and make an account, and would have them send me some of the assignments they have been working on, so I can give them advice on how their work is coming along. The students will be given a lot of information and have many assignments throughout this course and to have a site like this to keep them all organized would really help the students and the teacher out. This site will keep them organized because they will see their task list through there email and also it organizes you assignments for you. Another thing that I found interesting and useful that a teacher could use on this site would be that when doing group work you can assign it through this site and split it up so each of the group members have an equal amount of work.
I think this site would be a great thing for students to have to keep them organized and they would always know what tasks and assignments have to be done. It is available 24/7 to students and splits up the tasks so you know what assignments and projects you are to be working on. I would definitely use this site in my classroom.

Grade 5 Math
For the grade 5 curriculum there is a unit on Division. I found a great interactive website that students will be able to go, to practice division questions and have fun at the same time. The webite is called Fun Brain Math. This is a tic tac toe game, that allows the student to answer different division question and when they get it right, they get an X, and they play tic tac toe against the computer as they try to out smart their opponent. In the game you can choose easy, medium, and hard for levels of divison questions. This is a great game for students to learn about and practice their division skills.
To incorporate this into my class I would allow my students to go this this site to test their knowledge and understanding of division. I would use to throughout the whole semester, when children have free time after they are done their reagularly assigned math questions. They can go on this site and play a fun game and still work on their math. This allows the students to have fun on the computer while still learning and practicing their division.
I think this is a great site and it allows children to have fun while still touching up on their division skills. I believe that this game would allow children to have fun while they were learning about division. Children will want to learn about divison because it is a interactive and competitive game, so they don't want to be get the wrong answers and lose.

Tobacco
In the Grade 9 Health Curriculum there is a Unit on Tobaccoo. In this unit you are to teach the students about tobacco products and the effects they have on your body. The students are also supposed to learn about the different kinds of tobacco products there are and what each of them can possible do to your overall health.
The website that I found is called Tobacco Facts and I believe that it would tie in nicely to this unit is becuase it has tons of information for the students about tobacco and the effects they have. There are several different quizes and games about tobacco and tobacco products. There is also pictures of different types of cancer that are caused by tobacco, to show the students what it looks like. This website also teaches students how to quit and gives you resources to help you quit and also why tobacco products are so addictive in the first place.
To incorporate this website into my lesson plan I would use it at the start of the unit as a kind of tester to see how much my students know about tobacco and the effects they can have. I believe it is a great way to start off the lesson as children can answer questions without feeling ashamed of not knowing the answer. I would have the students go to the website and take the tobacco true or false test and the Are You in The Know Quiz. These quizes teach the students about the effects of smoking and chewing tobacco and it also teaches you about second hand smoke. I would use this webite as a starter for the unit so the students can kind of start to understand about tobacco and the effects they can have.
This website is great to teach studenst about tobacco and its effects. This website will hopefully really get through to my students about how dangerous tobacco products really are.

Grade 4 Whole numbers (Subtraction)
In the Grade 4 curriclum there is a unit on whole number subtraction. The website that I thought that the students would really enjoy is Quia Math Journey. This is a fun and interactive site that allows students to practice their subtraction skills in a really fun way. On this site it will give you 30 questions and start at a specific location (Ex. Istanbul, Turkey) and every time you get the right answer you travel to a new destination (Ex. Karachi, Pakistan). Every time you get an answer wrong you will miss you flight and have to stay at that location until you get it right. Once you get 3 answers wrong your journey is over and the game ends. This site allows the students to practice their Math and also to see different locations throughout the world, that they may have never heard of before.
To incorporate this in the class, I would use it at the end of the semester and use it as an online test. There are 30 questions on the site, so each question would be worth one mark for a total of 30 marks. I would give the students a blank piece of paper to do their math work on and I would also make them hand in that sheet so it shows me that they did their work. I would also have the students write down all the locations that they went to and then I would be able to incorporate those cities into our social studies class in the geography unit. This site would make the students want to get the right answers so they could keep discovering all these new locations. At the end of the test I would record their mark out of 30 and see how many they got wrong. If some students didn’t get to do the 30 questions we would sit down and see where they went wrong with their work on the paper.
This is a great Math site for kids and I think that it would make a test, which would usually be very stressful, a relaxing and fun experience. I think that the students would be more laid back and it would allow them to focus more on the questions. I truly believe that when students are comfortable in class they will perform better. For students it is nice to have a change, instead of doing written test after written test. That is why, having a test and site like this will allow the students to have some variety to their testing, by having it in an interactive way which they can enjoy.
Have a great day everyone!!

Money Management
In the Life Transitions 30 Curriculum, there is a unit on Money Management. The purpose of this unit is for students to acknowledge the value of money management in their lives. Students will recognize that effective money management skills will help them meet personal goals. The site that I thought would be great for students to understand money management is Lemonade Stand. This purpose of this site is for students to go on and make their own lemonade stand and try to sell as much lemonade as they can. You start out with $20 and you have to buy all of your materials and price them out, for you to make the most profit you can. You have to go and buy paper cups, lemons, sugar, and ice cubes. Each day that goes by it shows you how much lemonade you have sold and your customer’s satisfaction.
To use this site in my classroom I would have the students go on and make there own lemonade stand and figure out how they can sell lemonade and make a good profit. The students will learn how to manage their money, buy buying the right materials to allow them to sell the most lemonade. I would have to students do this for 20 days and see how much money they are left with and how much they made or lost. While they are sell their lemonade, I would have them keep track on paper what things they have done to sell lemonade for each day. Things such as how many lemons they put in a cup each time or how much sugar and ice cubes they used and how much they charged the customer each time. I would have my students hand in that paper and then I would make the students write me a 2 page paper about how they thought they managed their money. Writing about what they thought they could have done to sell more lemonade and mange their money in a better way.
This is a great interactive site to teach students about proper money management. It allows the students to learn about money management in a fun way. It also shows students what it would be like to own their own business. I would definitely use this site in my classroom for my students to understand what it takes to manage their money.

Fire Safety
In the Grade 1 Curriculum there is a unit on Safety. Seeing as one of the leading causes of injuries or death among children ages 5-9 are fire and flame, I thought it would be great to find a website that allows children to learn about fire safety. The website that I thought would be appropriate and useful for a grade 1 classroom is called McGruff Child Safety Center, Be Fire Safe. This is a great website to teach your students about fire and fire safety.
This website teaches students how to be Fire Safe, by showing them which objects can cause or start a fire and it also teaches the students what to do if a fire breaks out. This site also has interactive games for the students that teach them about fire safety. There are two games, the first game called Be Fire Safe where you have to pick out the fire dangers in the house, and once you chose a fire hazard it will explain to you why it is a hazard. The second game is called Fire Safety Puzzle, in this game the students put together a puzzle and it will have a fire hazard in the puzzle and it will then explain to you what you are supposed to do when you see something (like matches) that can cause a fire.
I would use this site towards the end of my safety unit. I would make my students go on to the site and read the Be Fire Safe and then allow them to play the games. After they were finished I would ask them questions about fire safety. Questions like, which house hold objects are fire hazards and what to do if you see a fire hazard or a fire.
This site allows the children to learn about fire safety in a fun and interactive way. I believe that the students would really find this site fun and interesting.
