In the grade 1 Health curriculum there is a unit on decision making. In this unit, I would teach the children about bullying and the effects that bullying can have on the victim. This site I found is called Stop Bullying Now and it allows children to learn about bullying in a fun and interactive way. On this site there is tons of useful information, so the children can understand what bullying is all about and how to prevent yourself from becoming a bully and what to do when you get bullied or see bullying taking place in your school.
To use this in my classroom, I would have the students go to the site and try to get a feel for what bulling truly is about. I would then have the students go to the games part of the site and go to the game called Bully-wood Squares. This is a X's and O's game where you play against the computer. In order to get a X in the square you have to answer a question about bullying. You will be give the question and 3 possible answers. An example of a question may be; if you're scared to tell your teacher about bullying that you’ve seen in class, then_______________.To use this in the class, I would use it at the start of the unit. I would have the students go in pairs and try to solve the answers together. I will make them write down all of their questions that they were given and their answers for the questions and I would get them to hand in their work. This allows the students to work in pairs and it teaches them about bullying and it may answer any question they may have had about bullying. I would then have the students write a page of how they think they can prevent bullying from occurring in the school or what to do if you see bullying taking place in their school based on what they just learnt in the bully-wood squares game.
Overall, this game is a great introduction to students at a young age to learn about bullying. The game allows the student to have fun while trying to win a game, but at the same time still learning many facts about bullying. It also allows the teacher to see what the students all ready know about bullying, and it allows the teacher to know where to begin his/her lesson. I think that the students would really like this game and I think it would really get them thinking about bullying.

Sexuality and You
In the grade 1o Life Transitions curriculum there is a unit on Human Sexuality. In this unit you are to teach students about things such as safe sex and about different diseases that can occur from having sex. I found a great website called Sexualityandu, which teaches students all about sexuality and sex. This site will answer all the questions that students may have about sex and about specific kinds of diseases that you can acquire from having sex. This site is great for students because many of them are to embarrassed to ask questions they may have about the female or male body parts. While looking through the site, trying to figure out the best way to use this in the classroom, I found a great game called Sex-Fu Challenge. This is a game that asks you 10 true or false questions at a time about the male and female body and about certain things related to sex and if you get at least 7 right you can move to the next levels. They will ask the students questions like "Having sex while in the vertical position (such as standing up) is an effective way to prevent pregnancy,"and each time you answer a question, an explanation will come up for the students explaining why the answer was as such.
To use this website in my classroom I would have the students go to the site at the start of my unit. I would try to get an understanding as to where the students are on their knowledge of the male and female systems and about sex in general. I would have all the students go to the site and play the game and try to get as far as they could in the levels. After they play this game, I will tell the class to write down at least two things that they knew and at least two things that they learnt while playing this game. I would insure the students that no one else would see this sheet of paper and that they should not be ashamed in not knowing certain things about sexuality. I will have the students hand that sheet in and that is how I would know what needs to be taught to the students and where to start my lesson. This site is great for students to learn about sexuality and about the male and female bodies. It allows the students to learn about sex and disease at their own pace and allows them to feel comfortable while doing it.
I will definitely use this site when I begin to teach as it has so many useful things for students to use. From teaching children how to put on a condom to all the different questions about sex and disease. This game is a fun and interactive way to allow children to learn about sexuality. It is great to have sites like this that allow the students to have fun, while still teaching them at the same time. This site will answer all the students questions about sexuality and it will allow them to have fun while learning.

Grade 1 Math
In the Grade 1 Math Curriculum there is a unit on Adding. I found a great website for students to learn about Math and addition of whole numbers. In this unit you are to teach students about addition of whole numbers and about how to add when reading it in a sentence. So an example may be, For lunch, Mr. J's class ordered 13 hot dogs and Mrs. B's class ordered 7 hot dogs. How many hot dogs need to be made? I found a great site that allows the students to practice their math skills. The site is called Knowledge Box Math, it is a part of FactMonster. This site will allow students to learn about Math in a fun and interactive way. The site also will give the children lots of praise when they get a answer right and even if they get one wrong they still give them praise, which is good for children at that age. To play this game the students would go to the site and choose the grade that they are in. Then the game begins and students are shown several different groups of animals and the students have to add them up and put down the correct answer out of three choices.
To use this website in the classroom, I would teach the students their lesson on addition of whole numbers and instead assigning work out of the book, I would give them an assignment on the website. I would have them keep track on paper which ones they got right and which they got wrong and after we would go over the answers. Also if the students get all the answers right I would allow the students to move ahead to the next grade level and see how good they do with the next grade level math. I would also tell the students to use this site at home and practice their math with their parents. Using this site in the classroom allows for change in the students day. It changes things up, from their regular routine and it gives the a break from always doing math in their textbooks. Also the students we love doing math becuase it is a game and the students won't look at it like they are doing actual work and they will be learning without even knowing it.
I used this site in my EPS 200 field placement while teaching the children about Math and the students loved how they were allowed to do the work on the computer instead of at their desks and in their notebooks. It made the students try harder with their math, cause they didn't want to get an answer wrong and lose the game, as they were having some much fun with the game. Also the children in the class liked it so much that a lot of them started playing the game and practicing their math at home. I think that finding ways to change things up in your classroom will keep the students inerested in their learning. The students lose interest when it is the same thing over and over. That is why sites like this one allow the students to have fun while still doing their work and still learning about math. Incorporapting technology into the classroom and into all subjects makes learning fun and interactive for the students.

Solar System
In the grade 3 Science curriculum there is a unit on the Solar System. This unit is a study of the structure of the solar system, the characteristics of the members of that system, and a more detailed look at the rotations and revolutions of the Earth and the Moon. The site that I found will allow the students to learn about all these things and have fun while learning about it.
I found a fun and interactive site that will allow the students to learn about the planets in a hands on way. This Solar System site has lots of great sounds and movements that will keep the students engaged. The site explains all the different planets for the students such as, Pluto, Jupiter, Venus, earth, Saturn, etc. I would first have each student pick a specific planet that they want to do their research on. I would then have them go to the site and find their assigned planet. I would allow them to play the game and copy down all the information that it gives the students about the planets. There will be the planets all across the top of the page and the students can put their mouse on it and discover all the information about the planet. I would then have the students make a diagram of their planet and write an explanation of what it is all about by using the information that they got from the website. Also on this site there is another area that will teach the students about the terms like rotation and revolution. It is a matching game that explains what each term means.
This is a fun unit for the students and to be able to incorporate a website into the lesson makes the lesson that much more exciting. This site gives the students a ton of great information that they will be able to use when they are presenting their planet to the rest of the class.

Grade 6 Science (Volcanoes)
In the grade 6 Science curriculum there is a unit on Volcanoes. In this unit you are to teach students about all the different parts of a volcanoes. In this unit, students consider the causes and effects of volcanoes. Teachers are to discuss with the students the use of historical evidence as well as data collected today in understanding volcanoes. Volcanoes are spectacular reminders of the dynamic forces that continually shape our planet. I think this could be a really fun unit for the students to do. They can learn some exciting facts and watch interesting videos on volcanoes. The students will take a liking to volcanoes because of their explosions and how they evolve.
I found a great site that will allow students to make their own volcanoes. This site has so much great information about volcanoes and it has fun games for students to play. It teaches students about the different types of volcanoes and about the inside of a volcano. The game that I chose, the students make their own volcanoes and watch them explode first hand. The students choose the amount of viscosity and the amount on gas in the volcano and then make the volcano explode. As the volcano explodes an explanation pops up about the specific parts of the volcano. For example debris, lava flow, land slide, ash, and plume and when the students click on them they tell the students what they all are. I would use this site at the start of the unit to get the students really interested in volcanoes.
This site will allow the students to learn a ton about volcanoes and doing it at the start of the unit, the students will have many questions about the subject at hand. Social Relationships (Facial Expressions)
In the Grade 1 Health curriculum there is a unit on Social Relationships. In this unit you are to teach students about emotions. For example the emotions they show through their facial expressions, their posture and gestures. Students will start by categorizing "good" (or positive) feelings and "bad" (or negative) feelings. I will then teach students about feeling such as joy, anger, sadness, jealously, fear and frustration. I found a great website to teach the students about Social Relationships and about emotions. This website has pictures of different characters that are showing different types of emotions.
I would have the students go to this website and see the different types of emotions. I would make them go through all the pictures and write down which emotion they think that the picture is displaying. These pictures would allow the students to discover the different facial expressions that can be shown to display different emotions. I would then assign a specific emotion to each of the students in the class to act out to their classmates. For example I would ask one student to show facial expressions of someone who is sad or happy or anger. I would then have the students write down which emotion each student was acting out. Doing this will allow the students a bunch of different ways to understand facial expression
Having the students go to this website to see what different facial emotions look like is an interactive way to teach social relationships. It makes it fun for students to be able to go to this site and see first hand what these emotions look like. I believe students would really benefit and understand quickly what facial expressions are all about.
Have a great day!

Assertiveness Skills
In the grade 7 health curriculum there is a unit on Assertiveness Skills. In this unit students develop the skills to access information, evaluate it, and then make an informed decision. The Assertiveness Skills Unit assists students in developing effective skills to say 'No' in particular situations. Deciding to say 'No', vocalizing it, and then sticking to it, can be very difficult for many students. Assertiveness training, combined with practising a variety of strategies for saying 'No', gives youth the skills to face persistent pressure regarding smoking, alcohol, drugs, or sex; in fact, pressure to do anything that they do not want to do or know to be wrong.
I found a great site called Why kids say no to tobacco on how that will teach children that it is okay to say no to smoking and other tobacco products. This site have tons of great information to show students how to say no when faced with the pressure of trying smoking. It teaches these children about all the effects the tobacco can have on their body and shows them what can happen if they do decide to smoke. I would have the students go and read all the information on the page about smoking and the tips on how to say no. I would then give the students a scenario that someone was pressuring them to try smoking and they would have to write a couple paragraphs on why they would say no and how they would say no.
This site is a great way to show kids how to say no. After they read all the information about what can happen to them if they smoked should also help in their decision just to say no. Also the tips on how to say no should really help them when they are faced with a situation to try these things.

Spelling
In the grade 2 English curriculum there is a unit on spelling. Students are supposed to be able to spell specific words and understand their concepts. I have found a great site that will allow the students to work on their spelling and discover the spelling errors. The majority of the students that we will have in the future we have computers and do most of their work on that computer. We need to make sure that students don't depend on the spellcheck all the time in order to spell correctly. We need to make sure our students know how to spell and how to notice the errors in their spelling. This Spelling Check site that I found will allow the students to work on their spelling in a fun way. This site will give the students a group of four words and the students will have to discover which one is spelt wrong and make the corrections to that word by writing the correct spelling of the word on the computer themselves. The game keeps track of how many the students got right and how many they got wrong. It gives the students a lot of positive feedback and it makes them feel good about their spelling.
To use this website in the classroom, I would use it at the end of the semester. I would make it a fun game with the students getting ice cream for their prize of spelling well. The game gives them 10 questions, so if the students got 7 out of 10, they would get ice cream. 8 out 10 ice cream with chocolate sauce, 9 out of 10 ice cream with chocolate sauce and whip cream, 10 out of 10 ice cream with all that stuff and a cherry on top. I would tell the students this at the start of the spelling unit, so they could really practice up all year long. I would have the students go through all the questions and see what mark they get. If a student doesn't happen to get 7 out of 10, he or she is able to try until they get it. That way I will make sure everyone in the class will get an ice cream. I think the students would really want to do good on their spelling to get this treat. Having a site like this is also fun for the students cause it is a fun game that can allow the students to learn how to spell and how to discover specific spelling errors
I think that the students would really enjoy doing this game online. This site allows the students to see what spelling mistakes are made and it allows them to fix it on their own, without using the spell check of a computer. I think the students would learn a lot from this site as they can fix their mistakes and spelling errors in a hands on way.
