For Grade 10 Wellness class there is a unit on Healthy Eating. For this particular unit you would teach students about proper eating and dieting and proper physical activity for wellness. Grade 10 curriculum Eating Healthy Strand.
I thought that the site Mind, Body, and Soul would be great to teach students about proper eating and how to stay physically activity to maintain a healthy body and mind. On this site there is a lot of useful information for students to see and learn about. The site shows you things like which foods to eat and the portion in which you would eat them and also things like taking responsibility for your health. To incorporate this into my classroom I would use the website closer to the end of my Healthy Eating strand. I would first tell my students to go into one of the interactive games, menu master or food myth or magic. On this menu it has questions about every meal of the day and asks things like which foods are quite balanced and too high in fat and so on. Then on the Food magic or myth, it asks questions about healthy food and healthy eating in a true of false format. I would use this site to prepare my students for their final test on the Healthy Eating Unit. Using these games will allow my students a hands on study tool and I will even incorporate some of the same questions on the test. I think that this site will be great for teaching students about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.

HIV/AIDS
For this blog I chose a Wellness 10 class, Challenges for Wellness: HIV/AIDS Education. Advocates for youth is a website where children can go to learn about HIV/AIDS. This website is a great tool to teach your students about preventing and how to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS. It also teaches your students about how they can get HIV/AIDS and who is at risk. This website would be great for a project on HIV/AIDS, as it has so many tools that will answer all of the students questions. It is also a good tool to learn about sexual health and sexual education which are all things that students at this age are nervous to talk about. I would use this website as an introduction to HIV/AIDS unit. I would allow children to search this website and ask any questions they had about HIV/AIDS. Next I would get them to look at a specific tool to preventing HIV/AIDS. For example I would tell them to click on Condoms and there it would lead my students to several questions they probably had before, but were too afraid to ask. This allows them to look at it without being scared or embarrassed. After the students have looked through this website, I would begin the lesson. The children would be more comfortable talking about it because they now have a bit of knowledge about HIV/AIDS and the students would have more input. This site will help the children to learn about all the effects and preventions to HIV/AIDS and they can see it in a way that will not embarrass them. It also teaches them many other aspects to Health and Sexual Education.

Kids Health
Seeing as I am a Health major I thought I would find my first website on a resource that will help elementary student’s to learn about Health. The Website is Kid’s Health and there are many fun games and activities that are on this website that teach students about Health. There is one game called the “Spelling Bee”, where students spell out certain Health terms and find out the definition of that term. There is also another game for the students called “Mission Nutrition”, this game asks you certain questions about nutrition and asks you certain questions as to which foods and drinks are best for you.
I also believe that this website is a great tool for students that are doing a project on a specific area in Health. For example if a student wanted to do a project on the flu, they could simply click on “Everyday illness and injuries” and look for the flu. There it will tell you about all the different aspects to the flu.
The games on this website allow the students to have fun while learning about Health. Also the resources are very helpful to learn about specific areas to Health. I would use this website in a lower elementary classroom in Health class. I would use it when the students have free time as a fun learning activity and or when they are doing research on a Health topic. This websites has many different options to teach your students about basic Health.
Have a great day everyone.
